We speak with images now all the time; we have sort of a standardized language that we use. But I think that for at least specific situations [like the pandemic], we should try to find a translation of what’s going on—not only representations.

In the light of you is a collaborative photographic project where everybody is allowed to participate.

These photos were born as the documentation of a simple performance and they come from a visual study about the phenomenology of the virus Covid 19. It is evident that this project takes the cue from the social distancing measures adopted to oppose the virus but it is also clear that this concept survives the pandemic and its consequences because one of its goals is to create relations. In fact, overall I believe this is a project that brings people together, that puts them in front of the mirror and that carries along universal and humanistic values. Who knows if it is by chance that this work was born in Florence, the cradle of Reinassance.

The never stereotyped images of the places of a not seductive Italy provide the scenario for a photographic world that is close to people.

Right after I made the first images I decided to make this work a collective project. I did that because I felt that sharing a linguistic format with other photographers meant to create a community of gazes and of intents. Symbolically meeting means dialogue: speaking and confronting each other means consciousness and growth, that’s why I think we need to connect.. It also means not feeling alone and to be active, effective in response to the separation we were constrained. During the long phone calls I made to explain the project, everytime I spoke with each of the photographers I felt like we had shaked our hands. All together we have built up a sincere network made up of photographers who have accepted to put themselves in my shoes and people who have volunteered their bodies for these photos, humans who represent humanity.
